Iconic Sydney Hotel reborn with Electro-Voice

The much-anticipated return of the iconic Dee Why Hotel – after a three year closure – was one of the most exciting venue launches on Sydney’s northern beaches last year. Dee Why Hotel has been reborn into a vibrant, eclectic, modern, and welcoming bar that maintains the authenticity of the venue’s heritage, and is a testimony to northern beaches lifestyle. The hotel focuses on delivering a buzzy bar experience, a delectable brasserie menu trading until late, and a live music element with intimate performances by some of the finest musicians from Sydney’s live circuit and bars.

Saltec were asked to design, supply, and install a premium audio system to suit the various needs of the venue and, according the Saltec’s managing director Greg de Vries, a system comprising equipment from Electro-Voice, Bosch, and Dynacord offered the ideal solution.

“It’s a good, reliable product, and we get good support from Bosch and EV,” he commented. “Basically it was the right product for their requirements. Unlike some Audiovisual Integrators, we are not biased to any particular brand – we believe that we should provide our client with the best, most economical solution for their particular application.”

The main bar / lounge area utilizes ten Electro-Voice ZX1iT surface-mount speakers, the VIP rooms have four pairs of EVID 4.2T surface-mount speakers, and the gaming area has EVID 3.2T surface-mount speakers. Ten Electro Voice C8.2 ceiling speakers are located in the main bistro area, with two pairs of EVID 3.2T surface-mount speakers in the serving area. Bosch BCS-CS ceiling speakers were installed into the TAB area, whilst the bathrooms house Bosch LC3100 ceiling speakers.

Powering the system are three Dynacord DSA8405 amplifiers.

Mark Bayfield, general manager of Bayfield Hotels, has been impressed with both Saltec and the new products installed into his venue.

“Saltec do all our hotel work, and I find them very reliable,” he remarks. “In particular, I like that they design to our needs, which is helpful. We work as a team and they understand our business. The EV speakers have been really good; they give us the volume that we need as well as good clarity.”
