Two New Extenders from Gefen Work With Existing Matrix Switchers to Extend HDMI Over CAT-6 Cable to Remote Displays
Posted on Saturday, May 1, 2010

Booth SL 2809, Las Vegas, NV – Connectivity solutions provider Gefen introduces NAB attendees to two new companion extenders to Gefen’s 4x4 and 8x8 matrixes for HDMI. Both are designed for professionals working with the HDMI v1.3 format, and seeking a simple and reliable method of extension for integrated systems. Both new matrix extenders send audio and video content from either four or eight hi-def sources over CAT-6 cable for remote viewing of high definition content. This offers an easy, affordable and reliable method of hi-def signal extension for matrix systems already installed. Distances up to 200 feet (60m) can be reached using just one CAT-6a cable per display, while previous systems used two cables. Each matrix extender also streamlines the installation by incorporating up to four or eight sender units in a one rack-space solution.

The 4X and 8X Extenders over CAT-6 for HDMI v1.3 connect to any installed Gefen matrix through the RS-232 connection. Once installed, the RS-232 connection on both matrix extenders can be utilized for remote control, or via the IR remote. Just one CAT-6 cable per display carries 1080p full HD, multichannel audio, IR remote and the RS-232 protocol.

4X Extender over CAT-6 for HDMI v1.3

Allows four hi-def video sources connected through a 4x4 matrix to be viewed on four remote displays using HDMI. High definition resolutions up to 1080p full HD with deep color are delivered to the assigned display together with multi-channel audio. This extender sends content to four displays up to 200 feet (60m) in distance using small receiver units connected by one CAT-6a cable per display. Ideal for any venue that requires integrated displays to be mounted in different locations, this extender is rack mountable for a simple installation.

8X Extender over CAT-6 for HDMI v1.3

Allows eight hi-def video sources connected through a 8x8 matrix to be viewed on eight remote displays using HDMI. It supports 1080p full HD with deep color and multi-channel audio with Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio. All eight displays can be placed up to 200 feet (60m) from the sources using one CAT-6a cable per display with individual receiver units. A greater signal distribution makes this matrix extender ideal for more complex system installations.
