Haivision Products at MEDICA 2010
Furnace™ 5.6
At MEDICA 2010 Haivision will highlight its Furnace™ 5.6, a complete solution for end-to-end HD H.264 video-over-IP distribution that includes a completely redesigned and easy-to-use interface, as well as a newly integrated Conditional Access (CA) Module.
The new Conditional Access Module in Furnace 5.6 offers healthcare facilities a built-in authentication portal that interfaces directly with their LDAP/Active Directory databases. It further provides the ability to brand CA portals; to assign rights and privileges for live streams, playback channels, and video-on-demand (VoD) assets; and also provides Furnace administrative tools such as recording, client control, and reporting on who viewed video and when. Additionally, the new portal also integrates with the Haivision Stingray™ set-top box to deliver secure video streams to displays, with always up-to-date player software, at resolutions up to HD 1080i/720p.
The powerful integrated solution continues to support the compact Makito™ HD H.264 encoder in making it possible to connect operating theaters securely to an unlimited number of locations and clinicians in real-time video collaboration and teaching events. Through a secure network connection and encrypted video streams, surgeons can feel confident that their patient health information is protected, thus allowing an unlimited amount of health informatics to be exchanged for an improved collaboration experience.
Furnace 5.6 offers network video recording (NVR) functionalities including API-enabled management by third-party systems, ad-hoc recording and pause/resume recording, bookmark insertion with annotations, and publishing. With these tools, physicians have the ability to record and store the entire procedure on the network for future viewing on demand applications such as medical presentations, clinical training, and research.

Makito™ Decoder
Another highlight at MEDICA 2010 is the latest addition to the company’s Makito™ family, an H.264 decoder that offers the lowest latency decoding available with fewer than 70 milliseconds of latency at video resolutions of up to 1080p60. The speed and exceptional video quality of the Makito decoder not only support video training, but also facilitate real-time collaboration across and among healthcare facilities in telemedicine and telesurgery applications. When paired with the popular Makito HD H.264 encoder, this system provides efficient delivery of HD video via HD-SDI or HDMI output. Sharing the space-saving, miniblade form factor and low power requirements of the Makito encoder, this new product is an optimal solution for medical applications seeking a professional-grade, low-latency, high-performance video decoding solution.

MB6 High-Density Six-Slot Chassis
To support fast and easy deployment of its market-leading encoder systems in even the most space-constrained installations, Haivision will demonstrate the market’s highest-density option for HD encoding — the MB6. This six-slot chassis design holds up to six Makito™ or Barracuda™ encoders in just a single 1 7/8-inch rack unit (RU), making it easy for hospitals and other facilities to deploy robust IP video systems without giving up valuable floor space in their network rooms. The hot-swappable design of the system allows for various chassis configurations with any combination of Makito encoders, Makito decoders, or Barracuda encoders to meet any video distribution need. The chassis simplifies deployment in the medical environment by offering a medical-grade AC power supply option.

Makito™ HD H.264 Encoder With Component Analog and DVI Inputs
Haivision will also demonstrate its flagship Makito™ HD video encoder, which now supports both component analog and DVI inputs. The Makito represents the first and only full-featured high-performance compact encoder to combine the efficiencies of H.264 video compression and the image quality of full HD video within a very small form factor at a very competitive price point. When integrated with the Video Furnace IP video system, the Makito also distributes 100-percent secure and robust video across the medical enterprise or healthcare facility.
The unique encoding system of the Makito delivers low-latency, full-frame-rate H.264 encoding of HD video up to 1080p60, or computer graphics resolutions up to 1920x1080 60Hz and 1280x1024 75Hz (SXGA). Additionally, HiLo-Streaming™, the ability to encode once and emit both high- and low-bandwidth streams simultaneously, and Multi-Streaming™, the ability to send streams with different IP encapsulation to different destinations, give hospitals and other facilities flexibility in distributing video to consulting physicians, interns, and device experts.
